You can type whatever you want into the note and Windows will save your note for later. To delete the current note, click the trash can button. These windows can be moved or resized as normal. Just click-and-drag or touch-and-drag the title bar to move them, or click-and-drag or touch-and-drag a corner of the window to resize them.
You can also resize notes by clicking and dragging or touching and dragging at a corner, making them as small or large as you like. If your Windows device has a pen or stylus, you can draw or write notes directly in a sticky note. You just have to start with an empty note—every note can either contain typed text or something drawn with the stylus, but not both. Sticky Notes are also integrated with Cortana for reminders. When you type something with a time or date, the time or date will turn blue and you can click or tap it to set a reminder. Some of these features may only work in certain countries at the moment, but Microsoft is extending them to new languages and countries with the Creators Update.
Expect Microsoft to continue adding Insights and continue expanding the available Insights to more people in the future. They are still alive and well in Windows 10 but now offer a couple of enhancements from prior versions of Windows. You can launch Sticky Notes one of several ways. Or simply type the phrase "Sticky Notes" in the Cortana search field and click on the result for Sticky Notes. Or just enlist Cortana's help directly by saying, "Hey Cortana. Launch Sticky Notes. You can move any note around the screen by dragging and dropping it at the top most portion, which has a darker color than the rest of the note. You can also resize a note by moving your cursor to one of the sides or corners until the cursor turns into the familiar double arrow.
Then just move your cursor to enlarge or shrink the size of the note. Your ability to format your notes is extremely limited. You can't directly change the font size or apply various attributes to your text, such as bold or italics. About the only formatting change you can make is to alter the background color of the note, which by default is yellow. To do this, click anywhere in the note and then click on the hamburger icon the three horizonal dots and pick a different color, such as green, blue, or white.
So far, Sticky Notes sounds like a handy but rudimentary feature. But in Windows 10, there's more to it thanks to the power of Cortana. Just type a note such as "Call Nathan at work on December 30 at 4pm. Click on the Add Reminder link, and Cortana shows up, offering to remind you about this task. In the Cortana window, click on the Remind button. Cortana will then appear at the appropriate date and time to remind you of your task.
